Highway/Street Kerosene Traffic Lanterns: Re: Living with nothing but Lanterns

I use heavy mineral oil USP in them and other lanterns that were intended to burn signal oil or lard oil, it's a little more difficult to light but so far has worked well for me. I tried kerosene in the car lamps and as long as they were turned way down it works well but with the dual wicks they get very hot really fast. I've not tested the mineral oil in extreme cold weather though as it rarely gets very cold here in So. California.
