Apparently, they use this stuff on tanks in the military. You can keep using the solution till it turns totally black, so it lasts a long time. I've had wonderful success with leaving complete rusted burner assemblies submerged in it in a tall "Chinese tupperware" container from a dollar store overnight, sealed to keep it from evaporating. All that's left is bare metal and whatever galvanizing or paint was left, it doesn't affect that. It gets the rust out of everywhere, even inside the wick gears.
Also great for removing the rust from the bottom of a tank, just pour in, leave overnight, pour out and use again. For a rusted chimney, enough in a container to stick the lantern in upside-down, and it gets it right out. It does work better if you clean soot or kero buildup wax out of the lantern first, though, or it has to take a while to soak through it. My procedure has been to destroy all grease with 100% SimpleGreen or Krud Kutter liquid, rinse, dry, and into the Evapo-Rust.
