I was thinking the other day that if I had to keep only one lantern, what would it be ? I know this is a common but mine would be a Dietz large fount little wizard marked CITY OF LA. The reason is because as a kid you could find these in use ALL OVER Los Angeles on old yellow wooden barricades. Sometimes there would be 50+ if the Street Department was doing a major repave. They were on major and residential streets, alleys, sidewalks, etc into the mid 70's. I got my first car in 1973 and still noticed them in use. As a kid my brother and I would play on city construction equip on weekends and make sure any knocked over barricades were put upright again. Calif div of hiways was still using torches at the same time. By 1975 all the old stuff was phased out. The little wizard still puts a smile on my face and is my favorite in my collection. What is your favorite ?
