Normally the front of any American made lantern has the fill port and the lift is mounted on the right tube for right hand operation. In the case of hot blasts the top globe retainer is also operated from the front whereas cold blasts always tip the globe to the rear. So the few Monarchs they made with the fount rotated have to be considered as rear fill, otherwise the lift and the globe release would be backward. In the case of Dietz lanterns, the patents are also always on the front. The rear fill Monarchs are one of the very few exceptions to convention. Another is the O.K. hot blast which has a rear exiting globe. BB
