Last night I was trying to figure out WHY ..... the globe wants to slip out when raising the globe, and why it doesn't seem to fit tightly. And why the globe won't raise easily without assistance. Here's what I came up with:
#1 - Without the burner cover, the globe lowers TOO low, and when trying to raise, the bell misses the little track when going up. That make sense? THAT problem should be solved with the burner cover in place.
#2 - The bell has too much play in it, it rocks slightly allowing the globe to pop out a bit in the front. (NOTE: the Paull's globe fits much better then the somewhat newer Dietz globe did)
I thought perhaps the hole of the bell was just worn too much, but when comparing to other Dietz hot blast lanterns, I found
that the two long vertical wires that attach to the bell, AREN'T soldered like they are on the Dietz lanterns. The are just hooked through a little loop of wire, which allows the bell to wobble too much.
In my opinion, the lift system isn't as nice as on the Dietz lanterns.
Still, a cool lantern ...... it will be lit soon.
