the crown is stamped Dietz No.2 D-Lite N.Y. U.S.A. and Dietz oval logos, this one has a production date of S-5-40, so I guess that crown was used prior to the 50s', as you can see it has the wing-lock burner and I think the same bail, I also found one with a date of S-6-43 which as Bob said has the shouldered bail (no peened ends), rising cone burner and is terne plated, the crown is however the same as the 1940 model. Incidentally, there was a box behind the rack of D-Lites and inside there were more streamlined Monarchs and guess what I found?
Ah ha! I must have bought that one after all and then packed it up with the other Monarchs, I thought I was missing a couple, now I know where they went. Anyway that is not factory paint, it was a very good job of masking though. The production date is S-2-40 on this one. After cleaning off the gold paint I realized that there aren't patent dates on any of the streamlined Monarch lanterns either, like the D-Lite they have the actual patent numbers stamped in their place.
I am curious though what part of the country Chucky bought his D-Lite on the odd chance he wound up with the one I used to own, it is a smaller world than we think sometimes.
