Just wanted to share my latest find.
(Sorry, no picture. Still haven't done that Photobucket thing)
We went to a used furniture/antiques type store looking for things completely un-lantern related, and I spotted a blue, streamlined Blizzard on top of a tall cabinet.
It was VERY dusty, but looked like it was in great condition.
I ended up getting it for $8. I considered that a bargain, since I compare all lantern prices to what I might expect to pay on eBay ... with shipping and all factored in.
I brought it home and immediately began the disassembly/cleaning.
As expected, it cleaned up great! The clear Fitzall globe is perfect, and the blue paint is excellent everywhere except the crown, which has heat discoloration, and a there's a bit of the same on the area that sits right on top of the globe.
I fueled it up with Klean Heat, and had it burning out on the porch all evening.
I'm guessing it's probably a late American made version. It has the newer style bail, and no patent/production dates that I can find.
Nothing rare nor exceptional, but it's a great looking, American made Blizzard that I can actually use.
Add to that the reasonable price, and the fact that I wasn't even expecting to find a lantern on that particular outing, and it pretty much made my day!
Happy Summer! Keep 'em burning!
Barry
