My little Rico Birdie passed away last night. He'd gone to the vet yesterday, because he was sneezing and not eating. When I woke up and checked on him late last night, he was going. I sang him over the rainbow bridge. Rico was such a character. It took years for him to trust me and be cuddly, but when he decided to, he was a cuddle bug.
Rico was temperamental feisty, cranky, funny, cute, and so much a little Quaker bird. I had him for 19 years. I estimated his age at 25 plus. He lost almost all of his sight last year, but he never let that keep him down. He knew where everything was, and could even fly from his cage and land on my shoulder. He was such a joy, right up until his last day. He loved his quaker song, and the go Rico chant, loved his pistachios, loved pumpkin seeds, loved the Stop It game and loved his life.
I'll miss you Rico Poopy, my little green good birdie.
This is the last picture I took of Him, a couple of days ago. It's not the best picture, but I will cherish it as I did him.
It is hard when they have been a part of your life for so long. I KNOW he heard you sing him over the Bridge and loved it. I also know you cared for him as you had a special chant and game and made sure he had his favorite treats over those years. When you put so much into these little souls who are NOT "Just" birds as they evolve and you grow with them, it is a loss for which I can find no words. He is beautiful and he sees you Sees!!!
Fly high and free, Rico! There are new friends to meet, old ones to see again...and don't forget to wait for your human. She will be along and can't wait to see you again.
