Thank you for asking. I'm up and down and Max looks terrified. I stay with him a lot and as I said it's lucky I work at home but I do have to leave him alone. I'll keep talking to him and maybe he'll be less scared. I got him and at the time Dorian so many toys for Christmas. He's to scared to go near them.

Thinking of you also. When I lost Lily 2 years ago, her cage mate Mocha never really was able to bond with any of my other tiels. He waits for me to pet him. I pay extra attention to him. It will take time, but he will be Ok. It is harder on you, as you are experiencing your own grief as well as caring about him as he goes through this.

I did some googling to see if I could find helpful tips about grieving birds, and found a site where an owner had this to say about her bird who was grieving the loss of his cage mate. I wonder if it would help Max:

"What do you think of me moving him back to his original cage? Do you think the huge one he's in might be too overwhelming? His original is 24x24 and the one he is in is 42x30. I wonder if a smaller space might make him feel more secure in the interim?"

He was fine in his larger cage to sleep, but DID want/need to have some time each day in Snickers' smaller cage for awhile. He actually spent most of the day in there.

Part of that may have had to do with the size, although I took it to mean he needed to be "close to his buddy". It was probably a combination!
