I just went into the bedroom and Max is sleeping outside and on top of the cage. He looks terrified. He never slept alone in 14 years. I can't sit with him all day but because I work at home I will stay with hm at least 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. I know he likes me in the room even if we don't have any actual contact.

Poor Max. Since I've been here, I sleep in the bird room. Maybe you can sleep in the room with him? It might make the night less scary for him. Play a radio, or the TV for him, to help him feel less alone.
I wonder if you got a stuffed bird and put it somewhere not too close, if Max might find it comforting.
I play the radio on the NPR station, not too loud, when I'm out of the house. It helps give some background noise for the birds. They're used to it now, and I hope, if the day comes I have an only bird, they will find it comforting then, too.

I sleep in the bird room also but I watch tv in the living room because he. used to go t sleep around 6:00. I'll try to stuffed part.
He'll only eat if I'm in the room. I'm scared he's going to start to lose weight.

I watch TV in the bird's bedroom. They sleep through it all. I have to leave them alone during the day, so when I get home, I just go to the bedroom and hang out, then go to bed in the same room. I was going to move into the living room and sleep, but they don't like me being in the other room for long.
It's difficult, I know. And I am so sorry about Dorian. I hope Max can be comforted with your presence. He will Miss Dorian for sure, but I pray he and you can heal a bit.
