Glue traps

At night I was putting out the glue traps. I forgot to put it away this morning. I just saw the trap and it had a feather in it. I think Max got caught. He was loud this morning but I didn't think it was anything. He really leaves the top of his cage anymore. He seems alright now. I just flipped out. I sprayed him down with water. He's eating and I didn't see any glue on him. I don't want to catch him. He's a strong bitter. What do you think. I'm so mad at myself. It was so careless and stupid.

I think a feather fell on the trap. If he had been caught in it, there would be lots of feathers, and he probably wouldn't have gotten out of it without some help from you and some mineral oil.

I know that gave you a terrible fright, but he should be okay.

I'm an idiot. I should have known better. The moths freaked me out. He did scream this morning in an off tone. I just got a new hearing aid and I thought it was the hearing aid and I was just hearing everything louder. I know I'm not going to sleep all night. I'm assuming it's max because the feather was dark gray. They were flying and eating before I scared them to death with the spray. They both haven't been the same since I moved. It's already two years.

I just don't want to scare them any more.

Mine have been very different since we moved, too. Mine are older, and had been in the old place all their lives, most of them.

Give your birds time to calm down from your scare. They probably reacted to your fear when you found the trap with the feather. That and yes, the spray. In the future, know, water won't get glue off a bird's feathers. You have to use mineral oil. I honestly don't think Max got in the trap. I've seen videos of that happening to wild birds, and they are usually covered in glue and stuck to the trap. The feather might be from molting, or he lost it flapping, he might have had a fright or bad dream, even.

I know you love your birds very much. Take a deep breath, and know you're doing very well with them.

Most moths that get in my house are attracted to light. If the birds are in their cages at night, leave their door cracked and turn a light on in the hall or another room that will attract the moths. Put the traps where the light is. BUt if the birds are loose, know that birds also fly towards light, so dont' put the traps out.

If you have a spare cage, put the glue traps in it, and put it in their room, and keep it's doors closed so the birds can't get in. The moths can get in, though, and that's what counts. Put it near a lamp. or light.

I'm still depressed because he was tweeting a lot this morning when I was in the other room. I thought it was especially loud because of the hearing aid. Now I don't know. I think he did get something stuck in there and started to flap. I have to feel around him tomorrow somehow and see if he's sticky any place. I didn't see any glue on him but I have to check. I'm also terrified if he got any in his mouth. I thought warm water would help dissolve it but I guess not. I read mineral oil then you have to really rinse it off with dawn detergent. My goal is not to terrine him.

I ordered a net from Amazon and it should come next week. I gave Dorian and Max another spraying (really heavy). I ordered bird spray with aloe in it. They're eating and acting normal. I'm not. I just was looking for over an hour for an avian vet around here. They just don't have them here. Then I went to the kitchen and found water up to my ankle. There was some sort of leak in my bathroom. I was lucky I over ordered paper towels and I used around 24 to clean up.

Diane, I think that they will be all right. I like seesthru's suggestion about putting the traps in a spare cage and closing the door. When I had my moth invastion I got the blue-light Zevo trap that you plug in. The sticky part faces inward, not outward. Plus I got the moth traps that you have to assemble yourself. You drop the pheromone cube in once you've assembled the trap. For whatever reason the kind that comes already assembled didn't do anything.

I'm sorry to that I'm an idiot. I should have known better. I like seethru's suggestion also. I'm trying to look for some type of cage that's cheap. They seem alright. Monday they were sort of in shock with the spray bath. Also I preen Dorian all the time but I never grab him. On Sunday I did grab him and felt his neck. I found something there that was good and black. I rubbed it out. I'm not really sure what it was. It's not there now. It could have been old poop (Max sometimes sits above him). I don't think it was glue because of the location. It was deep under his other feathers. Maybe some sort of stuck pin feather. Either way it's not there any more. I want to take both of them to the vet. I can't believe there's no avian vets in this area.

I'm leaving them alone for now. I'm buying them some sort of play stand to give them more exercise.

I worry about them all the time.

A trick to cathing a tiel, is dim the lights real low, so they cant see well, but you can still see them, then put a towel over them and gently pick them up with the towel around them. I have to catch Mr Tweets this way when he doesn't want to go to bed. I talk to them to let them know it's me. Rico Quaker didn't like it, but Tweets and Riley are okay with it.

I'm sorry about your leak dang that's terrible!

I know you'll worry about the boys for a long time, but I'm thinking they are okay. I hope you get an avian vet near you soon. I know the ones near me retired.

Max really knows how to bite. I didn't try to catch him. I did Dorian though like I mentioned above. I guess there's more money in being a general vet than an avian vet. The closest one I saw that advertised being an avian vet was New Paultz. I looked at the website and even though they had good credentials they weren't avian vets.

There's more education involved in being an avian vet, and since most folks have cats and dogs, yep, there's more money in that.
