How is your power and water situation? Any relief in sight? I now PUnta Gorda got really hammered by Ian (I hope they retire that name).
Have any relief orgs come out yet to deliver water and other necessities? Is there anything you need that we can send?

Hi Seethrough and Lori,
I wrote a long-winded response to Juanita's post asking about us, think it includes everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about our hurricane Ian experiences, LOL, but I just wanted to respond to your kind message and offer to help!
The response from utility companies from all over the country, relief organizations, law enforcement agencies, FEMA, insurance companies, you name it, seemed almost instantaneous, they were there just as soon as the storm was over. People clearing the roads from debris, setting up temporary shelters, places where people could pick up ice, water, food, tarps. They got gas stations and medical facilities open as soon as they could do so. The power companies from all over the country worked like yeomen clearing debris, repairing broken and downed power lines, other power structures and getting power back to people just as soon as possible- we got our power back 8 days after the hurricane, amazing to me considering our area had a large number of destroyed ( twisted and broken in half) power poles and others just leaning over) that had to be repaired before the power could come back. I think most people who have county water got it back when the power went back on, or before hand. We're on a well system ( as are most of the homes around us) and our well treatment system fell over and we found it broken in the yard after the storm. But once we got power back, a friend of ours and my husband found the water storage tank was ok ( once they removed the broken pipes underneath it), repiped it temporarily so it could be connected directly to the well pump ( submersible so it survived) so we could get water into the house. Smells like sulfur till we get the treatment system replaced but it's water so we are happy.
I think we're plugging along just fine at this point. It'll take patience and ingenuity as needed to get through the hurdles that will pop up as time goes on ( they're out there, we went through Andrew in Miami in 1992, our house was destroyed and rebuilt, took us two years), but it will get better.
Thanks so much for the offer of help! Marybird

Wow Marybird you lost your house during Andrew and now are dealing with Ian?!!! I don't know how you've borne it. After reading what you said about all the help that poured in once the storm passed I was quite impressed. I still remember watching the news the morning after Katrina passed and the announcer's cheery voice (ugh ugh ugh) announcing "Good morning everybody. New Orleans is completely underwater this morning." News copters flying over New Orleans reveling in the ratings but not doing a dang thing to help. And there was no help on a federal level at all. The then poor mayor was pleading on the phone for help.
