Today is one month since having Dakota as part of our family! He has acclimated so nicely. Today was the first day he stepped up on my hand from inside the cage. He also got brand new untreated manzanita perches custom fit for his cage to replace the dowel perches. We were hoping the natural perches would minimize his desire to hump the perches but he investigated that situation quickly to find which spot on the perch would serve his needs by rubbing along the entire perch front and back until he found THE spot. But in general, I know it's better for his little feet. He eats almost any vegetable you offer him and he likes it hand fed to him or on a clip. He likes apple slices. He bobs his head up and down and dances. He talks and sings with one foot up in the air. He serenades his veggies, his water bowl, his cuttlebone, leather strips, and sola ball. He sings only to me, not my husband. He loves to sit on our shoulders and on fingers and arms. He doesn't like or want head scratches at this time. Next experiment will be a bath. We will attempt misting him and also putting a bowl in the bottom of his cage to see what he does. LOL we also got him a flat perch from the manzanita company. We've learned so much about him in a short time. We already love him and he loves us just as much!
