I have been marinating on saying anything, but what is going on in Hunt with the flooding and the deaths, etc. really hits home for me. The camping community in Hunt helped to complete my growth into an adult. For several years beginning at 25, I worked at a Girls' Camp (Camp Arrowhead, the property which I fear has been demolished in this latest flood and is just up the road/across the river from Mystic). I worked in the office and one thing I was responsible for doing were errands, so I traveled daily into town on Hwy 39 between Hunt and Kerrville and this area was where we hung out: The Hunt Store which was destroyed, the Post Office next door were regular spots to visit. Along with many, I assisted the girls throughout their days in various ways as well. I am also a former teacher of young children. So, much like I felt after Sandy Hook where young children were killed, I have been brought to my knees. In this, two Camp Directors have died trying to save their counselors as well as too many others. So memories of this part of my journey have sparked feelings I don't want to delve too deeply into. 💜
