Over the years I've observed that vets don't seem to think anything bad about chronic laying. They always discouraged Lupron, most of them citing cost. But they never had to deal with having to stand by and watch a hen's health deteriorate because of chronic egg laying. One vet that I had that I liked a lot (she was more general--she would send more complex problems to a more experienced vet) said that it's a two-edged sword. They are opportunistic layers. If we treated them miserably or neglected them they wouldn't lay because their health wouldn't allow it. But because we love them and treat them well, feed them well, make their lives comfortable they feel it's safe to lay. And lay. And lay. Cathy
