This morning after I got the boys up and taken care of, i went in my bedroom to get ready for the day. I turned on my dresser lamp and walked to my closet to pull out my clothes for the day, walked back to my dresser to sit down, when the bulb in my dresser lamp EXPLODED and shards of glass flew every where! I jumped for my life it seemed and it took a while to realize what had happened! To say I was shook up wouldn't cover it!
After I got all the glass cleaned up, I examined the lamp and the bub. There were no signs on the lamp that anything had shorted out or burned. But when I unscrewed the remains of the bulb from the lamp, the filament on the bulb looked melted. That was definitely where the problem lay. It was a regular GE 60 watt bulb that was burned at the base. My son called right after it happened and thought it might have been a power surge, but I had other lamps on, which included two in the bird room. I told my son that if I had been sitting at my dresser those glass shards would have hit directly in my face and eyes! I will not be using that lamp again just in case, but there are no burn evidence on it at all. I do believe it was a malfunction in the bulb.
