Perhaps filing lawsuits is a business model in the US, it certainly is not in Europe. These two are trying to make money with their particular set of 'skills' but, as it often goes in these cases, not very successfully... Making all kinds of deals to pay for one's wedding is a sure sign of a cash flow problem.

I haven't had time yet to read through the multiple links that BrentB supplied above relating to the legal actions of ML and Durek. But as far as the transplant that he underwent, even if it was free to him in Norway for that procedure then why are they resident in Norway when it suits them but also resident in California for other business reasons? And I can guess, he never gave up his U.S. citizenship so....she can be resident there in Calif. also as the wife of an American citizen. And I would guess that many or even most of these legal complaints are also against American individuals/companies/etc. As you noted, the latest house in Norway is in need of serious repair and where better to get the funding easily than in a multiple-party lawsuit?

Thank you for these additional links. I hadn't been aware, just based on the Guardian link I previously posted, that M-L and husband were suing as many as 14 different parties in their California court actions. Or for as much as they are attempting to win - $80 million. No doubt between his organ transplant hospital costs and their joint bills for the wedding reception last year....they do need to leverage the settlement money from somewhere convenient.
There's no "organ transplant hospital costs" in Norway, we have universal free health care for anyone domiciled in Norway and members of the national social security system. Mr. Verret has at some point moved offilically to Norway.
But on the other hand, I am not sure everyone involved in the wedding arrangements have been properly paid yet. They have also bought a house outside Oslo in need of serious renovation...
