As the world knows...in accordance with its own procedures, the U.S. gets a new president inaugurated on 20th January. But on this particular occasion, Said Person has this week already been making statements about appropriating the semi-autonomous Danish territory of Greenland. Given the provocative nature of those statements, one can't help but also wonder how the reaction will be in terms of formal events - and who will or will not be in attendance. For instance, will the Danish Ambassador to the U.S. even bother to appear at the inaugural, or any events celebrating it later that day or during the week? Will the brother of the Danish King himself and who is an attache at the Danish Embassy there in D.C. decide to also be absent at that inaugural ceremony, or other celebrations? And in Denmark itself, will the American ambassador be acting as if nothing unusual is going on, and simply stage garden parties or formal receptions and expect high Danish officials to attend? Will the Danish King send the standard formal congratulations from one head of state to another, or will he take the unusual step of a diplomatic silence in the face of verbal aggression? What has been the reaction in the Danish media and opinion on how any of this should be handled on 20th January?
