One Danish politician (can't remember the one offhand) said "it will be our Notre Dame".
It is always sad to see such an historic building savaged by fire. Im glad that with the help of the services and the public the paintings and contents of the building were saved.
Denmark is up for what is no doubt going to be an expensive restoration to return this monument to it's former glory.
The overused word "iconic" truly applies to this building in Copenhagen. Built during the reign of Christian IV 1619-1640 it was a fine example of Dutch Renaissance architecture. Its distinctive feature was the spire of four intertwined dragons tails. The paintings and other treasures were saved.
