Thanks for your response. I'll have to check out that book. Sources do conflict on this issue. But since the present Danish monarch is called Margrethe II I guess it's safe to assume that there are those that consider Margaret I was a Queen Regnant.

Queen Margrethe I of Denmark, Norway and Sweden who found the Kalmar Union...even though she was the defacto ruler of the three kingdoms while Eric of Pomerania was King of all three kingdoms during her life, was she actually a Queen Consort and Queen Regent without technically being a Queen Regnant?

I found this sentence:

That comes from a book called "Medieval Queenship", page 38.
