Queen Ingrid seems to have had a major influence on the Scandinavian monarchies. Not only through her daughter in Denmark or through her nephew's wife in Sweden also Queen Sonja of Norway has stated how much support she got from Queen Ingrid. Im guessing that the name of the hereditary princess of Norway is very much a tribute to her and that the crown prince of Norway knew how important the Danish queen was for his grandfather and parents.
How fortunate that you were able to call Princess Lilian a friend Roger, and thank you for sharing with us some of your stories of her. Even though Queen Ingrid had married into the Danish Royal Family, she seems to have remained true to her Swedish roots. Queen Silvia states in one documentary that Queen Ingrid was most helpful to the young and inexperienced new Queen Silvia.
I should add that yes - Lilian was seen as Bertil's partner for many years within the royal family. The late King, Gustaf VI Adolf, was however afraid that his son would be tempted to do what his brothers Sigvard and Carl Johan had done by marring commoners and therefore loose his right to inherit the throne. As it turned out, Bertil and Lilian were faithful to the crown and sacrificed personal happiness by not having children and Lilian was therefore accepted as Bertil's partner, even in public in the seventies. Lilian was especially close to her sister-in-law Queen Ingrid and of course, the current royal family.
