Crown Princess Märthas son-in-law, Erling Lorentzen called the show grotesque and filled with deep lies. https://www.aftenposten.no/meninger/debatt/i/kRM8Jk/et-dypt-loegnaktig-inntrykk-av-historien-i-atlantic-crossing
Trond Noren Isaksen, a Norwegian historian who has written about Märthas stay in USA, has in different media several times called out on all the untrue stories in Atlantic Crossing. For example: https://www.facebook.com/trondnorenisaksenhistoriker/posts/some-of-my-american-followers-may-be-watching-the-norwegian-series-atlantic-cros/393271965441142/
It may be seen as good entertainment but I think it is important that we, who follow royal history, should be alert on all the fiction that is in all tv-shows about royalty - unlike non educated viewers.
...mmm the weakest link ?
Haakon and Olav were at save distance in the UK
Martha seeked refuge first in Sweden, where Gustav V was not very happy to have her as "political refugee", and wanted to send her back to Norway.
Finally she seeked refuge in the USA.
On the last episode I saw, there was an alledged attempt to kidnap Martha and the kids by the germans in a U-boat, with the complicity with Martha's lady-in-waiting friend.
Fortunately, Roosevelt was calling on her that evening, and the american secret services neutralized the kidnap attempt.
Did this ever happen ?
Why would the sister of the crown princess be bullied more than the siblings of the King of Norway who happened to be the King of Denmark and his siblings?
So far the episodes haven't showed anything about Denmark, just Sweden and how King Gustav V was more than happy to have Pss.Martha out of his country, pushing her to accept a regency in name of the boy king Olav.
My question is about Pss.Martha's eldest sister Pss.Margaretha.
Did the Axel's remain in Denmark during the German occupation ?
Were they particularly bullied by the germans (compared to the danish RF) due to their relation to the norwegian RF ?
If you scroll down the page to April 5th you can see that Pamela brought it up for discussion. I saw a couple of episodes only.
Yesterday, RTP 2 in Portugal, aired the first of 8 episodes of this series, that tells the story of the German invasion of Norway in WW2, the escape of Crown-Princess Martha to the USA and her friendship to President Roosevelt. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/shows/atlantic-crossing/
I wasn't aware of this series and have never heard any comments about it.
From what I watched yesterday, I was very well impressed, and looking forward for the next episodes.
I found particulary amazing the lookalikeness between Crown-Prince Olav and the actor Tobias Santelmann.
What's the general impression of other posters about this series ?
