Will Kancellihuset be their permenant residence, or has this anything to do with covid-19?
Amalienborg remains their principal residence but they will spend an undisclosed amount of time at Fredensborg. It's difficult not to believe it has something to do with Covid-19. There is a new horse riding track there which the princesses can presumably enjoy plus all the extra recreational space. They will also be close to the Queen who is residing at Fredensborg. In many countries people have been encouraged not to relocate to their summer residences. The reason given for not relocating is to not overload the medical services in more remote areas which would not apply to the royals, of course.
As announced by the Danish royal website! Starting today, the Crown Prince couple together with their four children will take residence in the Chancellery at Fredensborg Castle, where Their Royal Highnesses will be staying in the coming months. The Crown Prince Couple took over the Chancellery House in the time around the wedding in May 2004. Prior to this, the building was renovated after being Queen Ingrid's residence for many years. Until 2010, when Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg was completed, the Chancellery House was the primary residence of the Crown Prince couple. It was therefore also in the Chancellery House that Prince Christian and Princess Isabella spent their first year. For the last 10 years, the Crown Prince family has regularly lived in Fredensborg for shorter periods, but it has long been the family's wish to stay in the Chancelli huset for longer periods at a time.
