Re: Special announcement from the Swedish Royal Court!
I agree Johan. Too many royal cousins often seems to lead to trouble. (See the later Romanovs.) It is certainly quite a turn of events for the Swedish monarchy, when one thinks of the decades when the line of succession was exceedingly brief.
It was always likely that some change would come. Imagine if even grandchildren of Carl-Philip and Madeleine would be HRH prince(ss) of Sweden, Duke/Duchess of XX. The Royal Family and House would have consisted of dozens of individuals. The chance of one of them causing a scandal that harms the institution increases exponentially when the numbers of royals grows and closeness to the actual throne gets smaller.
To be frank how many decisions in your life did anyone of us make, taking into account the sentiments of your parents first cousin? I've not even met all of my parents' first cousins let alone that i ever considered their feelings when it comes to my life. Royals have the strange habit of sometimes just being like other human beings so limiting the Royal House and who will act on behalf of the monarchy is in line with what happens across Europe. A smaller limited Royal House with only a few active members.
And what would be the style of a future child of Carl-Philip or Mdeleine ?
Would they also have a title ?
Good question. I guess that they would be Princes/ses, but not HRH. But what about Ducal titles?
I think though that we can be pretty sure that grandchildren of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine won't have any titles at all. I guess children of Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel will be plain Mr/Ms Bernadotte.
