Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies was the widow Ferdinand VII of Spain (who also was her maternal uncle and her father's first cousin ) and the mother of Isabel II of Spain. Maria Victoria of Spain was the widow of Joseph I of Portugal and the Algarves and the mother of Queen Maria I of Portugal and the Algarves. Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick Wolfenbuttel was the widow of emperor Charles VI and mother of the reigning Maria Theresia of Austria for the last five years of her life. Agnes of Aquitaine was the mother of Queen Petronilla of Aragon. This was slightly different because her second husband and father of her reigning daughter abdicated to return to the convent he had lived in before his succession and marriage.
Agnes herself also went to live in a convent and outlived her husband so was the widow of a king and the mother of a reigning queen for the last two years of her life.
I've compiled a list of royal women who were both widows of kings and mothers of queens regnant:
Mary of Guise, Queen of Scotland (consort of King James V and mother of Mary, Queen of Scotland)
Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg, Queen of Sweden (consort of King Gustavus Adolphus and mother of Queen Christina)
Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, Queen of the Netherlands (consort of King Willem III and mother of Queen Wilhelmina)
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen of the United Kingdom (consort of King George VI and mother of Queen Elizabeth II)
Ingrid of Sweden, Queen of Denmark (consort of King Frederik IX and mother of Queen Margrethe II)
Are there any other dowager queens or empresses to add to this list?
