HRH Crown Prince Haakon will make an official visit to Tonga, Fiji and Samoa in the period 5-11 April 2019. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen Norway’s partnership with South Pacific island states, with a view to promoting common interests in the UN and in areas of international cooperation, for example the oceans and climate change, and peace and security.

I believe this is the first visit of a Scandinavian royal to either country?
The Norwegian visit has a political dimension not mentioned by the court; Norway is courting other countries with which we already cooperate on maritime issues, promoting our candidacy for a seat at the UN Security Council next year.
