Very interesting. Thank you for the clarification regarding the Count of Rosenborg. I had forgot that the count's lower ranking title was due to his unequal marriage at the time.
Like many members of the DRF, Ingolf was downgraded to "Count af Rosenborg" after having renounced his rights and made an unequal wedding.
Not sure if the RF considered those marriages as morganatic or just unequal, but the Rosenborg offspring are banned from the succession - Ingolf had no children but his late brother Christian had 3 daughters.
Their sister Elisabeth retained the title of Princess because she never married nor renounced her title.
It's natural that Ingolf was so moved at her sister's funeral.
After having lost his younger brother, now he lost his eldest sister, leaving him as the only surviving sibling.
He is an old man of 78 (the same age of the Queen) who looks frail physically and emotionally, and, having not been in the limelight since K.Frederik had the salic law abolished, he did not have to show the "stiff-upper-lip" of his cousin, to quote you.
Just a few observations and a question regarding Count Ingolf: Why is he a 'count' and not a 'prince' like his recently departed sister, Princess Elisabeth?
I was observing some photos of the Count at the funeral service and I noticed he had a resemblance to King Frederik IX and a bit like King Harald of Norway as well.
Also, he must have been very close to his sister, Elisabeth, because he seemed very emotional which is unusual to see in royals, e.g., Queen Margrethe and her sisters appeared to be 'stiff-upper-lip' in comparison.
