I always loved that she made her own evening gowns for official events, just like so many other women of her generation made clothes for themselves and their families.
When she arrived to royal events and the journalists asked 'where is your dress from?', she was often too modest to tell she had made it herself, so her answer was 'it's from Désirée'. Only the best royal correspondents knew that she was not referring to a fashion designer or boutique, but to herself, one of her eleven names being Désirée.
