: Crown Princess Mary still has a wrong
: pronunciation of many words, but people are
: more tolerant towards her than towards
: Prince Henrik.
: You make a very point, Stig. Denmark in 1967
: was completely different from Denmark in
: 2004. There were few foreigners in the late
: '60s and Danes were not used to their
: language been spoken with an accent. (The
: fact that *they* had an accent when speaking
: a foreign language didn't seem to matter).
: It was a very homogeneous society. A large
: majority of the population had a similar
: lifestyle, had the same curtains on their
: windows and washed their dishes with a brush
: . Along comes this cosmopolitan Prince with
: his bow ties and cigarette holder and he
: just is different...which was not good in
: those days.
: I say this as a foreigner who lived in
: Denmark at that time and enjoyed trying to
: fit in.
