You make a very point, Stig. Denmark in 1967 was completely different from Denmark in 2004. There were few foreigners in the late '60s and Danes were not used to their language been spoken with an accent. (The fact that *they* had an accent when speaking a foreign language didn't seem to matter).
It was a very homogeneous society. A large majority of the population had a similar lifestyle, had the same curtains on their windows and washed their dishes with a brush. Along comes this cosmopolitan Prince with his bow ties and cigarette holder and he just is different...which was not good in those days.
I say this as a foreigner who lived in Denmark at that time and enjoyed trying to fit in.
