: Is the half-mast flag at Amalienborg Prince
: Henrik's personal standard? Moreover, I
: understood that the royal standard cannot be
: flown at half mast, i.e., the king is dead,
: long live the king.
It is difficult to see which royal flag is flying at half staff ... I checked the royal flag pages at Kongehuset.dk, but couldn't find any specific rules. But in general, please have in mind that the royal houses are different and have different rules. In Norway the royal standard was flying on half staff from the balcony following King Olav's death, for instance (I think, but I don't remember for sure, that the royal standard was also flying from the roof, but not half staff. In Norway the royal flag rules were changed in 2003, so the royal flag at the palace only states that the King is regent. When the Crown Prince is regent, the Crown Prince flag will be flown, and if both are abroad or incapacitated, then the Norwegian state flag will be flown.
