While the circumstances surrounding the death of King George V are well reported, I had never heard before about the the treatment of Queen Maud shortly before her death by the same doctor, Bertrand Dawson, who had hastened her brother's death by giving him a lethal injection of cocaine and morphine.
In a letter to Queen Maud's Norwegian physicians Lord Dawson wrote: "When reading this account, you will agree that the Queen's sudden death was a relief and which saved her from these last painful stages of the disease both you and I know only too well."
While hardly conclusive, the documentary speculated that Queen Maud fell to the same fate as her brother, eased into death by a pushy doctor.
Has anyone heard about these allegations before?
