First off, I hope it's ok that I post on here. My mum was diagnosed almost 2 years ago, and since then has had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation. It has metastasized to her lungs (she has "small spots" that they found had grown a little after her first round of chemo) and she's starting another round of chemo next Friday. They told her about Herceptin, but she lives in Jamaica and has no health insurance, it costs roughly $70,000 USD so basically it's a no go and she'll just be doing chemo.
I'm just looking for some realistic expectations. She's known most of this for a while, but just shared it with me yesterday (the fact that it was in her lungs and her onc filled me in on the rest of the details). What can we expect with her only doing the chemo and not the herceptin as recommended? Is there anyone out there with a similar case who? I just don't know what to expect or if we should be trying something more. I haven't asked and my mum never will either, but what is generally the prognosis in a case like this?
