Tonight we had both the A division and B division in their best of three Division Finals.
In the A division we had both Torpey and Boathouse agreeing to an invitation to play both game 1 and game 2 at Norristown's Heels Field (formally Wierman field). Sully "Heels" Gelet was kind enough to make the offer after an unusual night off for his league so we decided to go for it. The lights came on about 8pm but by that time Torpey Insurance had just about completed their second straight series win and continue their unprecedented and amazing run!
Game 1 was a pitchers duel that was close all the way. Torpey scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st but Boathouse came right back with 3 of their own so it was 3-3 after the first. Torpey got 2 in the third and 1 in the 4th but Boathouse rallied for 2 in the bottom and it was 6-5 after 5 innings. Both teams had chances to score but neither did and Torpey held on to go up in the series 1-0.
Game 2 had Torpey getting 3 early and Boathouse scored 1 in the second. After Torpey added 1 in the 4th Boathouse also got 1 to make it 4-2. After getting two more in the bottom of the 4th Torpey then had a big 5 run 5th and it was 11-2 after 5. Boathouse could not muster any offense and as Torpey added 3 more it made the final 14-2. Torpey's pitcher, Jim "Jayhawk" Hawkins pitched a terrific two games and had solid defense behind him in both wins. Torpey had 5 home runs to lead the offense.
It was a special night in our playoff history having the game there and I personally wanted to thank Sully for the invitation. I think both teams enjoyed the opportunity to play "Under the Lights" and it was very entertaining.
