I think I've said before that she was a tricky gal. She had a checking account at BofA where I worked at the time (70s) and she'd use checks from an account that was encoded wrong, to pay bills. It took a while for checks to clear in those days so we'd get them at the bank in "non-reads", meaning the computer couldn't read them. We'd inform her and issue her new checks, but every once in a while, she'd use those unreadable checks again and we knew she probably didn't have enough money in her account.
