I met Wolfman Jack a few months before he passed away. He was doing a book signing at the Museum of Radio and Television in NYC. At the time I was working at a small radio station and it was quite apparent that it was going to go automated. I talked to Wolfman Jack for quite awhile at the signing and I was telling him about my station. I was telling him I was thinking of giving up radio since it seemed all the stations were going automated. He made me promise that I would never give up on radio.

A couple of months later, I was on the air when the news broke of his passing over the news wire. I stopped the song that I was playing and broke in with the news of his passing. I remember my voice cracking as I was reading. One of the hardest things I ever had to do during my radio career. I lost my radio job a couple of months later and I searched around, but yes I did give up. Fast forward to 2020 and someone heard a podcast. I did and asked me to go back on radio. So I did keep my word after all. And I will always honour my promise to him.
