1894 Rudolf Hess – Egyptian-born Nazi party secretary and deputy to Adolph Hitler. He caused an international sensation when he parachuted into Scotland in an attempt to negotiate a truce between Britain and Germany. He was imprisoned by the British in the Tower of London, the last man ever to be held there under lock and key. After the war, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Spandau prison by the Nuremberg tribunal, and he died in prison, in 1987 Honestly, I have to wonder why all Nazis weren't considered war criminals? 1900 Charles Richter - Seismologist who invented the Richter scale for measuring the magnitude of earthquakes. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio I never have understood the Richter Scale. I'm smart enough to know that the number goes up as the earthquake gets stronger but how did he arrive at those numbers?
