I was a little late getting anything outside or inside this year. I do have a small artificial tree in a decorated galvanized bucket on my microwave in the kitchen and a small tree on my shelf in the living room with lights on it. I put my star shower out in the front yard so I do have lights outside. All of our houses near me have put Christmas lights outside so we are now one of them. We seem to have a lot of people decorating here in Ohio this year. I guess we are trying to have some normalcy in a year that is anything but normal. My heart just isn't in it much this year but it's still Christmas. I am reminiscing about how my dad used to drive us around looking at Christmas lights. He used to drive us to downtown Akron where they decorated the Polsky's store and O'Neils building with all these little figures in the window. They are now owned by Casa Noel , a big tourist thing in Medina Ohio. The guy has bought all kinds of movie memorabilia. They have Cindy You Hoo's diamond ring, her pink bedroom suit, the mask that Jim Carrey wore in Scrooge, the sled Scrooge rode in... And the actual slide that Ralphie and Randy went down in the Christmas story when he said he wanted a red rider bb gun ! it's actually amazing to go through. You can look it up on line to see it . So many rooms too numerous to mention... Casa Noel.... A couple of years ago our family went there and Tom and I actually slid down the slide and they took our pictures. Tom actually started to slide down and then turned and told Santa he wanted a red rider bb gun. Santa laughed. It was a fun evening that will live in my memory. AS I get older I'm hanging onto my memories more now that I'm an "orphan " now. |
There is also a nice display in Medina Ohio called the Griswald House. It even has Eddie's RV in the yard, Clark holding his hands together getting ready to plug in the lights... The whole house is lit just like Clark did in the movie. The guy has decorated it for many years and he actually asks for donations for some disease ( can't remember what it is )that was in his family. The Griswald House is also online. Just look it up as " Griswald House in Medina, Ohio.
We also have the Christmas House where the movie " A Christmas Story " was filmed. Never been there. Someday I hope to since that was my favorite movie. That and " Christmas With the Cranks "
There is also a scrooge sign in one of our neighbor's yards that says, "You're a mean one 2020 " Sums it all up doesn't it? oh , and one more thing...I went outside to turn my lights on the other evening and I heard very loud music. It was blaring Faith Hill's " Where are you Christmas " which is one of my favorite songs. It always makes me cry ! So I'm standing in my yard, watching the truck blaring that song as loud as they can w /o blasting the speakers out going down the road . I know it's crazy but it made me cry. I was thankful someone took it upon themselves to spread a little cheer in our lives. Those are just a few of my favorite things for this crazy season.
