We were sad this morning. We had 5 huge goldfish in our pond along with little ones and a blue heron got 2 of them. Tom had taken Buddy out to potty this morning and he saw it fly over and when he got to the pond it was all muddy and the fish were skiddish. We had never had any problem until this year. Our bigger goldfish were 3 yrs old and were about 8" long and FAT . It breaks my heart that 2 are gone. Tom is out there right now putting a net across the pond so they won't get anymore.
And, my birdfeeder down by the pond was on the ground. Probably by a coon. We have them almost every night. Stupid nature !!
Don't believe it was the coon that got the fish especially since they come almost every night looking to raid my feeders.
I hate it that we have 2 fish casulties but Tom is going to try to be sure they don't get anymore.
We have Silvercreek Metro Park right down the road from us and the heron eat there all the time. Tom says the goldfish were targets because they are so big and bright orange. Makes me sick. They were our pets. We would take them out of the pond for the winter and keep them inside a big tank in the barn over the winter and now there are only 3 big ones left
