When I left yesterday ( the Hospice nurse told me to go home and try to get some sleep and they would call if they felt her passing was eminent ), I leaned down and told mom she could go if she wanted. She had lived a good life and I know she was tired and that I knew that Jesus and my dad were waiting for her so just let go. Told her I loved her and that she had been a good mom to me and for her not to have any regrets, all was good.
I went home, laid down on the couch and took a 2 hr. nap and the phone rang. It was the nurse saying her breathing was slowing down more and I should come. Then she said, the Hospice nurse just came out of the room and said she was gone. The nurse said, I had given her my permission to go and she did just that. With the virus spreading I had felt like Monday I needed to go see her and I'm glad I did. So then yesterday I spent most of the day with her until the time I left for a short time so I really feel like she wanted to go while
I was gone.
A really nice thing happened that I have to tell you guys... My mom loved to feed the birds and the squirrels. Mom's roommate had a bird feeder outside their room and the birds would come and eat along with the squirrels. Mom's roommate didn't like squirrels calling them "big rats" but mom named one squirrel "Mortimer Snerd" because when she was at her home she had fed them and had a Mortimer . It would look right in their room and looked like he was looking right at them. Well, the Hospice nurse told me when mom passed, their were 2 squirrels at the feeder and they were chasing each other around the pole. She said," your mom and dad are now together". I know it's kind of stupid but it comforted me. I just saw my mom and dad hand in had walking into the pearly gates together. I truly believe that !
I have to go to the funeral home at 5:30 to make final arrangements. I believe there are only going to be graveside services d/t the virus. Ohio is restricting everything and the graveyard isn't even allowing the chapel to be open . They are together in the Veterans section at the graveyard.
Also, I have to go back to the nursing home this afternoon to pick up her TV and her personal effects. I cant go in so I need to call when I'm coming and they will bag up everything and bring them to my car. Our voting primary was cancelled yesterday so we couldn't even vote ! All our stores are running out of everything. It's crazy how people react to these circumstances. WE have plenty of food in the freezer and milk and eggs for a few days so we'll do for a few days. Taking it day by day.
