Having to go through the home and sale is just as hard. Years of memories and things flash before your eyes. You can't save everything they treasured and kept for years wanting them passed down to family. Times are different now, as are needs and likes. Things that they saved that were valuable at one time, like furniture and chins/crystal have little or no market value. Kids today don't want it, won't use it and have little or no room for it in their homes. It's so hard but decisions have to be made and the most important one is the health of our parents in their final days and save what we can but limit yourself. Don't feel guilty, it's hard not to do so but in the end you will know you did your best. Memories and pictures are priceless and are always kept in your heart or a small album, take little or no space to keep. Family history, Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates family Bible, letters, pictures, cards, memorial cards and etc. are important if want to maintain genealogy records. Papers and such can be brought home and gone through a few at a time. It's timely but it's also comforting to read and go back in time when things were good. Wishing you all the very best in this most difficult task at hand. Doing an Estate Sale by a reputable local referral was a blessing. Took a lot of time but I wouldn't have made it on my own without them helping me and doing the sale. Not much money was made and in fact MORE went to the dump or donated than was sold. Sad but true. Praying for you all.
