Paul was my first cousin. I was three years behind him at MHS. As is true for many kids with older, worldly siblings or cousins, I looked up to Paul with no little awe. He was, after all, a starting running back on a good high school football team, while I was nothing but a nerdy freshman. Paul was quite a prankster (as noted in Aaron Cranford's post), and Paul loved to fill me in on what all he had gotten away with. He was either trying to shock me (which worked) or teach me the ways of the world. And, of course, he had the prettiest girlfriend (Carolyn Slaughter) in school. When Bill and Dutch (Paul's parents) took vacation trips, I almost always went along. After all, I needed to see what Paul was going to do next for my edifigcation! Yes indeed, Paul had an enormous influence on me, and I remember those times with great fondness.
