Tomie S. Holmes

It was with great regret that I read on Dock's messages that Tomie Holmes, class of 1954, had passed away late in December. I attended school with Tomie all through high school. He was a great friend and a truly special person. Everyone liked Tomie. He was kind, funny and just an all around good guy. His dad had a well service company in McCamey and his mom had a dress shop. She was always so tolerant of the girls coming to "look" at the new fashions. The summer after we graduated, Tomie was diagnosed with TB and spent the summer at the TB sanitorium which was then located near San Angelo. My folks had moved to San Angelo so I was living there. One day about five girls from our class drove over from McCamey to see Tomie. We spent a few hours with him. He was very pleased to have a roomful of girls to visit for the afternoon. He said it raised his prestige with the other patients!! It's been many years since I've seen him, but Ive never forgotten his wonderful sense of humor. May God bless all his family. Joy
