He attended school in Sheffield, TX working as a cowboy on local ranches to help support the family. At the age of 17 on March 6, 1943 he married Fay Criswell in Fort Stockton. They were married for fifty-six years until her death on May 5, 1999.
They farmed at Buena Vista, TX until moving to McCamey in 1951. During his lifetime, Louie farmed, ranched and worked in the oilfield. He and Fay operated McDonald Welding & Construction from 1977 until they retired in 1994 and moved to San Angelo. They were long-time members of East Side Baptist Church in McCamey. Louie is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Clark and Peggy Williams and husband Dub. His grandchildren Leslie Dwayne Williams and wife Candy, Loralie Diane Reagan and husband Rob and Casey Wayne Clark and wife Marlene. He delighted in his great granddaughters Alyson Fay Clark, Sayler Leigh Reagan, Alexis Sue Williams and Landra Elizabeth Williams. He is also survived by loving wife, Herlie Mae Smith, whom he married on January 16, 2001 and many nephews and special nieces including Nonita, Donita and Sarita Brown; Lou Brown Tanner, Barbara Yarbrough and Barbara Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Grape Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Winchester officiating. Pall bearers are Dub Williams, Leslie Williams, Casey Clark, Rob Reagan, Bill Brown and Wayne Tanner. Honorary pall bearers are Bennie Weinkauf, Jimmie McDonald, Kenneth McDonald, Joe D. McDonald, Gene Gray, Ronny Gray, Carroll Blacklock and Eddie Pruitt. Family will receive visitors at Johnson’s Funeral Home Saturday, October 27 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. The family would like to express their thanks to Vista Care Hospice and to all who supported him and his family during his illness.
