I've been taking my youngest to a handful of County games a season for a couple of years. This season he'd worked out how to get me to take him to more than one game a month and the Lincoln game was the one he looked forward to the most, seeing as it's our local fixture. As DB explained, Sam died in September having only managed Mansfield and Crawley but he was an enthusiastic supporter with the never ending optimism required to be a County fan. The applause at 15min was special and I'm glad I was there to witness it on his behalf. As were many of his family and friends, two of whom have never been to a game before. Thank you to everyone who took part. And those who applauded when his name was mentioned at half time. I heard you. I won't forget. I probably won't go again, this season at least. But I'll remain a County fan and grateful for the joy that young man experienced in the stands. Thank you 💙💔💙
I'm sure I will come back eventually. It's too raw to contemplate going to games without him at the moment. If it hadn't been for the support of family and DB, I wouldn't have been able to go to the Lincoln game. But I'm glad I did because special memories were made for, instead of with him.
They might not be perfect, but County fans are the best. 💙
We will all raise a glass to him next August at the annual Stockport County Memorial Day in Marple Bridge. So glad you could make it to the Lincoln game.
