Norwood and that Sack of Spuds 🥔

Just a reality check today.
They looked like they had 2 extra men for the first 35 minutes. They won everything in the air and all 2nd balls.
Camps and Norwood were poor first half and they were both replaced at half time.
Horsfall and Pye never looked comfortable against their attack throughout.
We chased the game 2nd half, got a goal back and looked like we might do something until their 3rd. Then the game was up. Shaped better in attack in the 2nd half but deserved nothing from the game.

I will have to wait for the highlights for a better analysis of today’s car crash.

It sounds like piss poor defending and possibly a goalkeeping howler and a blunt ineffective striker and nothing much in between the two 😳 were any of their goals down to fannying around at the back?

Can I ask, how many shots, headers or chances did Wootton have. And how many chances if any were created for him?

You were criticising us for 'faffing' at the back last week so I'm not really sure what you actually want us to do?

You either play out from the back and build up the attack or you go long.

It is possible to pass the ball about at speed without faffing about or hoofing it.

I agree, but again my point was mcduff criticised the team for doing both, so I'm trying to get to the bottom of what they actually want us to do, as they don't seem happy with either.

I’m not against playing it long to Wootton when he is winning the ball,but yesterday he was outmuscled.
Was obvious to many that their two taller CBs needed attacking along the floor with pace.
Would have been better with Tanto and Barry together yesterday.

I agree that Wootton was getting nothing in the air yesterday, but if we're doing going to play it along the floor with pace, you've got to start from the back and they pressed us high yesterday, so we were constantly under pressure and having to go backwards and play it around the back to try and build into an attack.

We've seen both styles work well this season so we can do it, but I think going long was the best of the bad choices yesterday because the defence looked terrible and really disjointed on the ball.

You can do both. You play it long or quickly forward when the press is working effective (like what Orient were doing), or patient build up if we are given time on the ball.. Too many times we get closed down playing it backwards, when giving it a welly to clear the lines is the better option.

We also need a keeper who organises the defence - Corey Addai seems like the Iain Gray scenario again ( for those with long enough memories).

There wasn't a goalkeeper in League Two last season who saved more shots per game than Addai and there was only one who had a better save percentage and that was Okonkwo for Wrexham.

Horribly at fault for two goals and nearly gave another goal away todaybut rescued by Pye. I’ll reserve judgement on their third goal but it seemed like he just lay down.

Add in a howler at Mansfield and a bad pass in the lead up to the Crawley goal. Plus I’m honestly struggling to remember a world class save he’s made so far this season.

I would feel a lot nore comfortable with Ben in nets. He shouts and organises better for starters.

We seem to be going through the Ethan Ross / Vit Jaros phase again where we try a new keeper early doors in the season and it falls flat on its arse.

Both keepers have made errors this season.

Both keepers were the best keepers in League Two last season.

Both keepers are very talented and are valuable members of this squad.

So your comparing a 46 game season over a 6 game start to a season in a tougher division.

Nobody is complaining this weekend either.

People are rightly pointing out that we weren't good enough yesterday. That's not opinion, it's fact. There's a minority of people calling for wholesale changes in both personnel and tactical approach but they're just that - a minority.

As for the keeper situation, I thought Ben had earned the right to start the season with us but he didn't, and I wouldn't want us to damage Addai's confidence by dropping him for next week either.

To be fair, Jaros didn't fall flat on its arse, he got injured.

I don't think he was any better than Ben and clearly Challinor didn't see the need to bring him back in once he was fit again, but Jaros never really put a foot wrong.

Defence was all at sea with Jaros, Corey is quiet and doesn't seem to command his back line, all about opinions of course but he was poor today alongside many others of course, young LB looked exciting going forwards but usually wasted it and offered little defensively, I'd rather Touray at RB than a rusty Connolly.

The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert.

He's not injured, he came on today. He could have played from the start today and could well play next week.

Adaramola is a James Brown type of full back. Loves to bomb forward, but decision making and positional sense seems all over the place.

Agree; numerous times today, Pye was looking for an outlet and Adaramola was too far forward, meaning Pye had no alternative but to go backwards. There were also several times he was caught out by a long ball over the top because he wasn't tight enough to his man.

By the same token, lots of times today Adaramola had gone forward and created space for Pye to move in to, but Pye went backwards.

Pye had his worst game for us today. He wasn't alone in that though

That was a car crash of a performance and nobody comes out of it with any credit.

If players perform so badly as some did today they should not be rewarded with a starting place next Saturday. It’s unfair on the rest of the squad.

Norwood, Addai, Wootton, Connolly , Tayo should not start next Saturday.

Fiorini does not look ready.
