So they had 1 covid case, and the game was off, because they couldn't field a team.

Also didn't see a single person downstairs tonight in the concourse with a mask on dispite not having food or drink.

So I wonder how many covid case's will arise from County tonight,due to the fact that football clubs stick to the rules well as will tell you, yet we as fans don't.

Arsenal's game was off due to a combination of COVID, injuries, suspensions and players on international duty.

But somehow fielded a team including a few youngsters the previous Sunday against Nottingham Forest. A game they promptly lost.

The PL season is in danger of becoming a farce / not finishing on time if this type of thing continues.

The rules specifically state that any under 21s used in the FA Cup third round won't count as having had the necessary first team experience to be considered as part of the 14 players if they've played no other first team games this season.

The rules are nonsense though. If young players are ready to play for Arsenal's first team in the FA Cup, then they can play in the league too in my opinion.

It's definitely more of a rules issues that it is a club issue. The clubs are following the rules that the Premier League have set.

There was talk earlier today that they'll be being reviewed soon.

That's not what the postponement rule was brought in for. It was just for Covid cases.

If you let football clubs postpone matches based on their injury list and the fact that they don't fancy playing then the professional game is over.

The rule is if you can't field a squad of 14 including a GK you can get a game postponed.

When making an application, clubs must provide the Board with the following details, together with clear reasons why they believe the match should be postponed:

- Players and staff who have returned a positive COVID-19 test, their vaccination status and, if known, the source of their infections.
- Players and staff who are self-isolating.
- Players who are unavailable to play through injury or illness.
- Players listed on the club’s squad list who are still available to play in the match, including appropriately experienced Under-21 players (which includes Under-21 players who have played for the club, another Premier League or EFL club, or an overseas club in the current season. However, any Under-21 player who participates in a club’s FA Cup Round Three match and has not played in any other first-team competitions for the club this season will not be considered by the Board as appropriately experienced).
- Supporting medical information to verify the status of each unavailable player, which will be reviewed by the League’s medical advisers.

As the guidance shows, the Board will consider the following principal factors when making a decision:

1) The impact of COVID-19 infections on a club’s squad, as well as injuries, illness and those isolating, and the number of players available on the squad list and any Under-21 players with appropriate experience. Where a club cannot field 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper either from its squad list or its appropriately experienced Under-21 players, the match will be postponed.

And that's the problem.

Arsenal sent players out on loan days before asking for a postponement. They fiddled the system put there to protect clubs from covid.

It's not there to be used as a strategic tactic

should be re worded as if you cannot name the squad of players you actually want to play. this is the billiobaire premier league not some non league side with a squad of 20 part timers.

bring in any laws and rules you want and guess what someone will use them for their advantage after they study them. back in the old days of three years back, it was not unusual for flu outbreaks at clubs to happen this time of year. what happened then.

There's definitely a clamour to change the rules, however it's the governing bodies who have set the rules and ultimately decide on whether games are postponed or not. They can and have refused postponement requests before now.

It will come to a head at some point though, as it's going to get to a point where teams will have be playing two midweek games to catch up. Burnley are 5/6 games behind others in the Premier League already.

It has become a pisstake. Arsenal also let two eligible players go on loan this month.
