Football games today

Good to see all games going ahead today, after the busy period of Christmas and New year games off due to covid , despite the cases rising heavily over the last 7 days.
It does seem strange how big a problem covid was in football over the festive period,yet has cleared up as by magic, then again i don't believe everything that's put in front of me especially by football clubs

fans love this period but imagine some players do not and these foreign managers certainly do not. a get out of jail card readily given and received.

To be honest , I think you're on to something. Not sure how anyone who uses the Pandemic to their own advantage looks at themselves in the mirror.We have a guy at work who had a terrible attendance record before all this and has since used it to grind to a halt..If it was up to me I'd:
A) take him to a forest
B) make him dig a hole
C) hand him a list of his absences over the last three years and ask him to try and justify them
D) shoot him so he falls in pre dug hole
E) fill in hole

This is a joke .....sort of

The world needs to know this stuff

It seems that a lot of players take a long time to recover but apparently one local team who we play very soon seem to all recover in 10 days especially with 3 new players in the team 🤬

From a good friend of mine, involved in local football, cue dosser you know who I mean, apparently alty had 2 players with covid, and 1 of them has left the rest we're injuries.
When has injuries, been part and parcel of games getting called off

Which makes it even more bizarre, that in the last week or so most of these teams couldn't muster 14 players during the festive period, yet could play 11 and then all have 9 subs on the bench yesterday for the FA Cup, some rapid turn round, while covid rates increase

Do you really think every case was genuine, covid has been with us for 2 years, just so happens it hit football over the festive period, when lots of football managers complain about to many games in a short space of time.
Every thing was OK this weekend regarding games why, do you really think covid hit football in a 1 week period and suddenly cleared up dispite cases rapidly rising.

But it's not off just for covid is it, another false statement. They've got lots of injuries and quite a few playing in the African Cup of nations.
They played yesterday in the FA Cup yesterday didn't they.
They've got a squad of about 40 players, so you're saying about 26 have gone down with covid over night,wake up, if a team has 14 players then under league rules the game must go ahead

I’m not saying anything, just stating facts. Just something to think about here but aren’t prem clubs limited to the squad of 25 they named at the start of season, not sure tbh, and I also think they are allowing injured players to be included due to the pandemic, I’m sure a few teams have taken advantage of the situation but I don’t think its wholesale. Regarding Xmas games, Boxing Day usually attracts the biggest crowds of the season, not so sure that chairmen of mid table teams would allow their managers to call them off without cause

Think you'll find that under current rules, it states that any player u21, that has played regular either in the 1st team, reserve team or academy team, either this season or last, must be considered to make up the 14 man squad, 13 outfield players plus 1 goalkeeper

You are incorrect. The Premier League's exact criteria is as follows:

"Players listed on the club’s squad list who are still available to play in the match, including appropriately experienced Under-21 players (which includes Under-21 players who have played for the club, another Premier League or EFL club, or an overseas club in the current season. However, any Under-21 player who participates in a club’s FA Cup Round Three match and has not played in any other first-team competitions for the club this season will not be considered by the Board as appropriately experienced)."

They don't consider regular academy/U21/reserve appearances as 'first-team competitions', therefore under-21 players with no first-team experience do not count towards the 14.

Aren’t they limited to squads of a certain size for Greedy League games or has that gone? Thought they’d ere to stop them stockpiling talent and too many not getting competitive football.

Under current league rules, any team in the top 5 league divisions, if they have 14 fit players including any player that has made a 1st team game this season then the game should go ahead.
Any team can have a loan player brought in to make up the numbers as long as he's signed 3 hours before kick off under new rules.

The African Cup of Nations excuse is bollocks. If you sign an African player, then you should have to expect they may get called up for the ACN and so you need to have a larger squad to compensate. Ferguson at the Dung said he rarely signed Africans because of it.

Yes it is,but team's are playing the covid card,I really can't believe how much some are being taken in about team's not having enough players to play a game.

The combination of Covid, injuries and AFCON means teams may not have the requisite 14 players.

My neighbour who supplies food to the above mentioned club told me he had received an email on Wednesday morning cancelling the order for the Monday game.
That’s before the official announcement and immediately being beaten the night before

Never mind Xmas period, some were pissed at plenty of other times. My dad used to say that a stalwart of the 50s regularly used to chunder up pints before the start of games. The most recent was a guy who came on as sub about 10 seasons ago who was so far under the influence he didn’t seem to know which way he was kicking.
