At which point; Do those that wanted JG gone realise what a massive error they have made?

IMO this form stretches further back than the appointment of Rusk and the stats bear that out. Rusks 9 games have garnered 2 fewer points than Gannon last 9 league games. Factor in the 2 incorrect red cards Rusk has had to deal with and you start to see the difference in form isn’t huge.

Right now we need a goal scorer. The defence looks much more solid but that has been at the sacrifice of goals partly because the strikers we have don’t suit the system. Part of that is on Rusk for selecting that system, but I can understand why he has. Get a goal scorer in quickly who suits the system and things will improve.

It's not about getting a goal scorer in. It's a question of style of play and tactics.

Ritchie Bennett has been sidelined and he is the main target man, holding up play, winning knock downs, bringing Reid into play. Reid relies on Bennett, but he has been replaced by Dalby, who has been next to useless in the games he's played. To the point where we may as well had 10 men on the pitch.

I've been critical of Bennett for his poor finishing, for missing 2 open nets, but take him away and the team suffers massively.

Simply bringing in a goalscorer or a fox in the box type of player, won't answer our problems.

We need Bennett alongside Reid, or ideally someone who can do a similar role as Bennett, but is a bit better at finishing. A bit like Dickenson or Elding (during his first spell).

We've changed our style of play. Gannon liked a "point" striker, which Bennett suited. Rusk doesn't want to do that, so we need a goalscorer suited to the new style of play.

We didn’t play with a point striker under Jim this season. Bennett and Reid were a fruitful partnership that was producing goals.

Given how much we’ve struggled to score with 11 on the pitch I’m not sure how much those red cards have really hurt us.

Reid was often playing off the left, but the overall point remains the same. Jim always likes a target for others to feed off. That's the idea of the "point" striker. Whether its another "striker" or 2 inside forwards, it's a style of play different to that which Rusk seems to want to play. Hence we need a new striker who fits that style.

I'd agree to a point however we are creating more chances than any other team in the league. I'm sure that an ALF or Madden type striker would have put away a fair few of them.

If we go 4-2-3-1 then we would need the 3 to operate close to the font man than they do. A Reid / Bennett partnership in a 4-1-3-2 would be the best choice from the options we have available.

How are we going to go once NSH and MK are back to full fitness? Their pace is sorely missed or are we going to go with the solid yet unspectacular approach.

I think as a club we will get to see just how the stats bear themselves out over the next few weeks.

From placed neatly behind the leading pack with an avg of 3 GIHand over 6 teams around us to now in a crazy dogfight to even hold onto a play off place.

It's this stat that shines the light on how stupid we [strike that we word] how stupid our all powerful football knowledable people have been.

Given our position at 9.45pm on Jan 19th and looking ahead from that very moment. Whether you Like, Love, Loathe or simply Detest him, JG either would have got us up, got us in the play offs; PERIOD !

If at the close of this season, that latter result of play offs only wasn't the desired target for our owner then no one could have argued with a change at the helm.

Then you have the choice of the manager, questionable - some could say, absolutely given his non absolute requirement for results based in his previous role.

Most (assuming here) SCFC fan's aren't into us being a test model for some unknown, the majority (another fair assumption) wanted one goal met - that of our return to LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

That goal for now in all seriousness has been removed until the ship is steadied for the right course to take effect once more and personally I still believe we have been set back 2 to 3 seasons on what that course could have been sailing toward.

There was no guarantee given our form at the time that we would have been any better off.

I don’t agree with the decision they made but make no mistake, this form has been going on longer than just under Rusk.

It damn well isn't about form and you know it. It is about someone who had County in his veins versus a southern youth coach. It is about our most successful manager in our history versus a goddam nobody with an assistant manager with a proven record of failure at Wolves. It is about someone with trophies in his hand and probably about to get another one versus people how simply haven't a clue to even get a team scoring.

That is what it is. Nothing more or less.

The only hint of the nature of Jims departure included in the deliberately vague statement (dressed up as a mark of respect) was the nonsensical reference to "culture" and not being results driven. Saying nothing without saying nothing.

Would the Manager reporting to, and being answerable to, the DoF be a more likely reason for the departure than Jim punching someone on the snout? I would think so. But hey ho many are happy to see our most successful Manager ever hoofed out of the Club without any explanation.

I hope Rusk's successful because the opposite would be cutting my nose off. Some hope that he and Wilson depart and Jim returns. That will never happen. Well not under the current owner anyway.

We're comparing and contrasting stats and they have never been relevant to those in charge. Jim's teams come good? So what they say. Rusk's system slows the game down and makes us easier to defend against. And.

I've come to the conclusion that this is the price to be paid for financial stability which I assume we have.

Time will tell.

And that's not me having a go at Gannon btw. I think sacking him was a mistake. But I'm willing to give Rusk more of a chance now it's done because I saw the reality of how we were playing prior to his appointment.

A chap was brought in as Manager from a club who were 4th bottom of the old 4th Division.

It took him 15 games to get his first victory.

Your being selective using the form line. If they replaced JG with a manager of similar grit and substance and proven success always trending toward moving a team higher then your line of thinking could have some merit. They didn't - you don't IMO.

I'm Not being selective;
Over the course of 44/46 games JG had the nut and perhaps the nutz to know what he needed to do with the hand he had to get us into where we needed to be.

I’m comparing sample sizes. The form up to Gannon being removed and the form under Rusk. It is literally the only comparison you can make that is fair to both.

The form prior to his removal was no better than under rusk.

Would Gannon have turned it around, quite possibly, but we’ll never know. If Rusk gets a proven scorer, he may well turn it around. But I think we all agree we need a better standard of striker than we have.

I think Jim's record shows he would have turned it round.; he's had bad runs in the past but maintained his record of year-on-year improvements.

I hope Rusk can turn it round but have my doubts while the puppet master is seemingly pulling the strings.

I reckon the issue with having a DoF isn't so much whether we have one or not but who they are.

We have one who decides who we buy and is treating his time at the Club as a project. More a stepping stone to bigger and better things rather than a long term commitment to the Club. I fear Mark Stott will have difficulty in attracting Managers to apply for a job where they have little or no control over what they are judged on.

Where we are in the league is pretty much irrelevant when there are others to take the rap when it all goes tits up. We could go down again to the National North and it would be all a part of the project and other such nonsense.

The decision taken regarding Jim and the manner he departed said more about the Clubs failure to understand what it is that makes us tick.

I want the Manager to be the man who decides who he wants. Not a Ryan McKnight tribute act with a spreadsheet and database of contacts.

Fylde managed it last year. To answer the question think when fans are allowed back in. They can probably ignore much of the noise on social media but there'll be no ignoring it when fans are back in, if next season doesn't start well.

It kind of also spoils your point, imagine JG came in one Monday morning and had a massive row with a chairman and gave him a slap, he would no doubt be sacked, however if said chairman wanted to show respect for what the manager had done in the past and basically knew it was just one of those moments he would probably agree to keeping things quiet for both parties sake

Player procurement is a part of the job description.

Whether Rusk has to plead a case to bring in a 2 goal a season striker is another matter.
