Although Ernie only played for a season for County in 1986 he is well remembered as an excellent striker in the lower leagues. He played for his home town club Chesterfield for three spells spanning 20 years and made over 500 appearances for them scoring almost 200 goals. A lot of his goals were headers - which may unfortunately have caught up with him in later years when he developed dementia in his late fifties. His family strongly believe that his football career was the cause of his later illness. Now aged 71 he is presently looked after in a care home. Anyway a tribute has just been created for him by naming a new housing development after him - Moss Court - on the site of the old Saltergate ground. A nice tribute to him which his family are very pleased about. Best wishes to him.
